Sustainability

Modern day consumerism poses a significant threat to the environment as it can lead to overproduction of certain resources.  This can have a negative impact on both the environment and regional economies.  We can not simply think of profit; we need to consider the long-term impact on the environment and future generations.  We also need to consider the importance of these resources to biodiversity and to people and cultures.  By moving towards sustainable and natural resources, we are also supporting a sustainable economy.  An economy that thinks only of profit is a “misunderstanding of the very concept of the economy”.

Moderate Level: Whenever possible, walk or ride a bike instead of driving a car. Walking or riding a bike is more sustainable than driving, and is also healthier for the individual as well as the environment.
MODERATE TIPS:

  • If possible, use sustainable energy sources, such as wind energy, water energy or solar energy.  Use energy responsibly.

  • Avoid purchasing unsustainable products.  Advocate to remove these products from the shelf.
